Care Instructions
- Machine Washable
- Using a Wrap: Place diaper or insert inside wrap. Add a flushable Bio-Soft liner if desired. Secure hook and loop or snap closures to ensure a snug fit around legs and tummy. To prevent leaks, ensure that the diaper or insert is completely tucked inside the wrap around legs and tummy. If using prefold inserts, do not tuck the insert into the front flap of the wrap (applicable to Super Whisper Wrap, Super Snap, Super Brite and Super Lite). Changing a Wrap: If wrap is not soiled, it may be reused. If wrap is soiled, fasten hook and loop tabs (if applicable) to the laundry tabs on the inside back of the wrap. Put wrap in pail or hanging wet bag with soiled diapers. Do not soak Bummis wraps. Wash every 2-3 days. Washing a Wrap: Attach hook and loop fasteners to laundry tabs. Wash on warm or hot with your inserts and/or diapers. Do not use a sanitize cycle on any product with hook and loop type closures or elastics. Set water to highest level. Rinsing with lots of water will help to avoid build-up of detergent, bacteria and urine. If using Super Lites, avoid washing with anything sharp that might snag the laminate. Avoid bleach, brighteners and fabric softeners. Use very little regular detergent or a zero-residue detergent. Using natural or oil-based soaps or too much detergent may leave a residue that can cause inserts, diapers and wraps to retain odours and/or leak. Dry at regular temperature in the dryer or on a clothesline. To prolong the life of the Super Lite wrap, opt for line drying. Sunlight is a natural brightener and disinfectant!
- WASHING DIAPERS: 1. Run a warm pre-wash (or a short cycle with no detergent) 2. Do a regular wash in hot water (60C/140F max). Do not use a sanitize cycle on any products with hook & loop closures or elastic. See detergent information below please! 3. Rinse diapers in lots of water to avoid build-up of detergent, bacteria and urine. 4. Dry in the dryer or outside on a clothesline (check the label of your product, as some products should only be hung to dry). Sunlight is a natural brightener and disinfectant! 5. Once washed, your diapers should not smell like urine or detergent. If they do, chances are you have a residue problem. Please see our info sheet on residues!
- DETERGENT: We recommend using a zero residue detergent! If you have a top loader, you can use the full recommended amount of a zero residue detergent. If you have a front-loader or HE machine, stick to the lower end of the recommended amount of detergent. Choose a detergent that does not contain any of the following additives, as they can create residue problems. Detergent residue will lead to leaking, absorbency issues and stinky wraps: Fabric softeners, Natural oils, Perfumes, Dyes, UV brighteners, Stain guard ingredients, Enzymes (they will not affect performance, but may cause rashes on some babies’skin).
Safety & Use Info
- Please be cautious about using vinegar and/or baking soda, as they can together or individually cause problems with some diapering products. We recommend that you do not use either of these unless specifically suggested by the manufacturer of your diaper or wrap. A bleach alternative can be used on an occasional basis for stain removal. It should contain no ingredients beyond sodium carbonate or sodium percarbonate.
- Detergent residues can easily be resolved! If the residue is not too extensive, you can usually get rid of it by doing several hot water washes with no detergent, then throwing the diapers, inserts and wraps in the dryer. Make sure you are washing with enough hot water. Multiple rinses will not work as effectively – you must increase the level of water used to was and rinse your diapers. SOFT WATER: Homes with a water softening system are more prone to detergent residue, as soft water requires so much less detergent and rinsing is less effective. If you have soft water, use a detergent formulated for soft water or make sure that you are not using too much of a regular detergent. Sufficient rinsing is especially vital with soft water. To test for absorbency, pour a small amount of warm water onto your diaper to test for absorbency. If absorbing properly, water should not bead, but should be absorbed immediately. Remember to apply slight pressure if your diaper has a synthetic interior.
- Organic residues can easily be resolved! AMMONIA: If the residue is not too extensive, you can usually get rid of it by doing several hot water washes with detergent, then throwing the diapers, inserts and wraps in the dryer. Make sure you are washing with enough hot water and rinsing well. If you cannot adjust your machine manually to the highest water level, call the manufacturer. If they cannot instruct you on how to adjust the water level to the highest water level, use the wet towel trick: decrease the volume of each load, and add one or two wet towelsin order to trick your machine into adding more water. The diapers will be heavier when weighed for wash cycle water addition. Or use the no-spin option between a prewash (pre-rinse) and wash cycle, if you have this feature. As well, each model of washing machine has a cycle that offers more water. HARD WATER: please note that hard water can cause detergents to work less effectively and can leave a mineral build up behind that can result in repelling, leaking, degradation of components and stink. Using a detergent formulated for hard water will often help but whenever possible install a water softening system to prolong the life of appliances, pipes and laundry.
